Thanksgiving Wishes

Greetings from the desk of me, Greg, on this week of Thanksgiving. We wanted to take a week off from recording and post what we here at Still Ripples are thankful for.

I will start by giving thanks for a loving God who sent His Son for our sins. Without this, we would have nothing to be thankful for, so I start here. I am thankful for the Bible and the wealth of information that God shares with us through it. I am thankful for the love that God shows us daily. I am also thankful for my very wonderful and supportive wife who, over the past 9 and a half years, has stood by my side helping me in my ministries.

I am thankful for the team that God has brought together that is Still Ripples: Brian and I started this over 3 years ago, and it has been an amazing journey building this together and the friendship that flourishes through it; and Craig Gilley who came back into my life after 18 years and has become an invaluable part of the Still Ripples team.

I am thankful for a church that trusts me enough to allow me to work with their youth. I am thankful for a family that loves and supports me. I am thankful for my job that helps people who need a helping hand. There is so very much I am thankful for, and I could go on and on, but for the time, I will end it here. May you have a very wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving.

International Day of Prayer

This Sunday, November 3, is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. It is easy for us in the Western world to forget that every single day Christians around the world are attacked, tortured, and killed merely for professing their faith in Jesus Christ. This Sunday, take some time to pray specifically for these brothers and sisters that suffer for their beliefs. You will be joining millions around the world praying for them throughout the day (and weekend).

Below is a recent episode of Christian World News discussing several stories of persecution, as well as the political repercussions of our nation ignoring these ongoing problems.

Is Jesus really God?

We recently discussed the Divinity of Christ on our latest episode of Skipping Stones. That same day, Todd Friel of Wretched discussed the accusation of some atheists that Jesus was not believed to be God until the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. This serves as an excellent complement to our lesson.

Post-Christian Nation?

Growing up, I was in a decidedly-Christian home, attending church every week (multiple times, actually), and knowing that God existed. With true childlike faith, I accepted what the Bible said, and in childlike innocence, assumed that everyone else did, too.

Unfortunately, we all have to grow up, and one of the first things to go seems to be naivety about many subjects.

Perhaps I should be embarrassed about this, but it is the truth. My assumption that everyone around me believes the way I do and accepts the same truths that I do has only recently (in my 30+ years) begun to come into question. I spent much of my 20s living in "the bubble": attending church, the BSM (Baptist Student Ministry) at the local junior college, and spending time with my "Christian" friends. I had nothing come along to challenge my perception that all was right with the world; that everyone shared -- or at least accepted -- my beliefs, and that confrontation about such things would be minimal throughout my life.

But something eventually changed.

Should Not Hearts Burn to Witness

Lord, You have both written on and speak to my inner being; how I long to write something that would speak to Yours. Though You have no need for men's words, You delight Yourself in those who keep Your commandments, offering them friendship and testifying to their obedience before the enemy and before the world. Pour out Your Spirit, oh Lord, upon Your scribe that I write outside of myself, for if I may pen what touches the heart of God, then surely the stone within men would shatter as their minds engage to the inscription by your finger.
